Ex-VP's death rumours denied by the family

 

The family of Nigeria's first elected Vice President, Dr Alex Ekwueme, has denied rumours on social media claiming that he has died.

In a statement issued by the family's spokesperson, Uche Ezechukwu, on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, he slammed the rumour as a 'wicked' act, especially as Dr Ekwueme's condition is 'improving considerably'

The statement read, "The truth is that elder statesman is alive and well. His condition is not only stabilizing but improving considerably.

"In fact, the former VP has moved from a stage of unconsciousness to a state whereby he now receives visitors, sits up and eats.

"It is also important to inform that Dr Ekwueme is yet to be taken abroad, as the necessary documentation and preliminary are on course and arrangements are being completed.

"Any statement I make on the elder statesman are impeccable and have full authentication of the family."

The former Vice President was admitted to the Memfis Hospital for Neurosurgery, Enugu, last week with reports that he collapsed and slipped into a coma.

On Friday, November 3, President Muhammadu Buhari approved his treatment abroad with the cost of chartering an air ambulance for the journey and the cost of his treatment covered by the Federal Government.
