Foods that can cause you food poisoning
Usually, food poisoning occurs when food substances get contaminated with bacteria, chemicals or toxins. But with studies done on this subject, it has been concluded that certain foods we eat can also put us at risk for food poisoning on the basis that improper cooking preparation or storage of these foods makes them harmful.
Here’s a list of foods that are capable of putting one at risk for food poisoning.
Poultry birds
In their raw form, they contain salmonella and Campylobacter; these are harmful bacteria that cause food poisoning if the raw meat isn’t cooked thoroughly. Other safety precautions one should take while cooking poultry birds includes: washing and sanitizing cooking items after use in order to stop the spread of these bacteria to other food items.
Eggs
Eggs also contain salmonella, therefore, it isn’t safe to take them in the raw form, eating foods containing raw eggs like salad dressings, cake batter, mayo, etc, could increase your chances of getting an upset stomach or food poisoning. It is advised that eggs should be cooked thoroughly before eating.
Vegetables
Vegetables shouldn’t be eaten raw as is the usual practice of some folks. In their raw form, they also contain harmful bacteria, therefore if you don’t want to fall victim to food poisoning, washing your leafy greens and vegetables before eating is essential.
Seafood
In regards to food poisoning in seafood, there are lots of factors responsible. One is toxins, bacteria, other harmful substances in the sea, and lastly, the storage condition of the fish.
