How to care for your wig

These days’ wigs are a fashion statement and a convenient accessory for most women.
There are all sorts of wigs these days- braided, human hair, synthetic (though phasing out). Getting yourself a few would be glam. Note though that wearing a wig is no excuse for not taking care of your natural hair. Keep your hair neat and clean at all times.
Here are tips for taking care of your human hair and synthetic hair wigs
1. Don’t use hairspray on it
Be it synthetic or human hair, a safe bet is that it might become too greasy and attract more dirt if you keep spraying it each time you want to wear it. Regular weave-on oil (or human hair weave-on oil) is fine to keep your wig looking luster.
2. Don’t sleep with a wig
You may want to lie for a quick nap in the middle of the day and think its okay to do so with a wig but this unadvisable. It might tangle terribly.
3. Never use a curling iron on a synthetic wig
Synthetic wigs are not heat resistant. Human hair wigs do well with heat so you could always change the style as you wish.
4. Keep it covered when not in use
This is to protect it from dust. Ensure it is stored upright so it doesn’t go out of shape.
5. Wash it
Human hair wigs should be washed when they have been worn at least 7 times. Before washing, brush it properly. Add a cap of a mild shampoo to cold water then immerse the wig inside out. Leave for 5 minutes then rinse the shampoo out. Don’t wring. Apply conditioner with your fingers carefully, leave for 2 minutes then rinse thoroughly. Lightly pat out the water with a towel. Place the wig on a wig stand to dry properly then brush. Don’t keep it in direct sunlight.
